Spermidine: The Benefits of Fasting In A Pill?!

Spermidine: The Benefits of Fasting In A Pill?!

Can we reverse our age?

I’m not talking about just the usual ways of taking care of ourselves that include working out and eating well.

Could there be a particular ingredient or supplement that can actually help reverse aging?

Spermidine could be the answer. It’s been referred to by researchers as a “calorie restriction mimetic” and “longevity elixir.”

What Is Spermidine?

And yes, it’s a funny name and yes, it is present in sperm cells. Dutch scientist Anton Van Leeuwenhoek stumbled upon this magic molecule way back in 1678 while examining human semen. Despite the odd name, spermidine has remarkable benefits for health and longevity. It is a polyamine that exists in our cells and naturally occurs in foods such as whole grains, dairy, beans, fish and vegetables.
The benefits of spermidine include antioxidant properties, enhanced brain function, heart health, boosted immunity, bone strengthening and reduced inflammation. It also regulates cell growth, proliferation and death.

How Does It Work?

Similarly to a major benefit of fasting, spermidine induces autophagy which is a “natural, self-preservation mechanism whereby the body removes damaged or dysfunctional parts of a cell and recycles other parts toward cellular repair” (4).

It’s thought that spermidine works by increasing the activity of an enzyme called PARP1, which helps repair damaged DNA inside cells. Studies show that spermidine can also reduce inflammation in the body—a factor linked to many diseases—and improve insulin resistance (a precursor to diabetes).

It has been shown to reduce oxidative stress on cells (which are at higher risk for damage during aging). Oxidative stress is associated with chronic inflammation resulting from unhealthy diet choices; this type of inflammation increases your chances of developing conditions such as cancer and diabetes over time if left unchecked.

But that’s not all it can do!

It’s good for your skin.

Spermidine reduces wrinkles and fine lines, improves the skin’s elasticity, tone and texture and gets rid of acne. It also minimizes roughness due to aging.

It protects your brain.

Spermidine helps protect your brain from the effects of aging like memory loss and cognitive decline. It can prevent brain damage caused by stroke, Alzheimer’s disease and other neurological disorders.

It supports mitochondria.

Your mitochondria are the powerhouse of your cells and where the body gets energy from (more on mitochondrial health here). By optimizing your mitochondria, you will not only have more energy but you will become essentially younger. There was a recent study that found spermidine turns on mitochondrial biogenesis. This is the process by which your body’s cells increase mitochondrial numbers.(1) The study looked at mitochondria in heart cells and researchers found that spermidine effectively reversed cardiac aging.(2)

It improves heart health.

Spermidine also seems to be a promising heart disease prevention agent. A recent study shows that spermidine has beneficial effects on health and lifespan in mice, and that these effects are the result of improved cardiovascular function. Similar effects of spermidine on humans are supported by epidemiological studies.(3)

Conclusion

Spermidine is a nutrient that has many benefits, so it’s worth looking into whether it could help you. It can be especially beneficial for cardiovascular health, brain function and skin health. As mentioned above, spermidine can be found in some common foods. If you are looking to supplement, make sure to choose a product with the best quality on the market – Puremidine™.
