Exogenous ketones

Exogenous ketones

Ketones are molecules produced by the liver via a process called ketogenesis, which is a byproduct of fat burning. This process has been shown to increase cognitive performance, health and recovery. Ketones can also fuel skeletal and cardiac muscle, fuel endurance performance, enhance metabolic flexibility and increase the body’s utilization of fat for fuel. In addition, ketones—specifically BHB—may help with the release of neurotrophins in the brain, specifically BDNF (brain-derived neurotrophic factor), which essentially serves as fertilizer for brain cells and the central nervous system.

Supplementing with exogenous ketones can help expedite the process of getting into ketosis, provide the benefits of elevated blood ketone levels and accelerate keto-adaptation—with or without following a ketogenic diet.

My recommendations:

What: BHB

How Much: 5-10 g per day (not accounting for the mineral salts bound to the BHB; including would be 6.5-13 g of BHB salts)
